Executive Director of Military and Veteran Services

Biography and Military Career

I was born at Scott Airforce Base in Belleville, Illinois, and raised on U.S. Air Force Bases around the world. My military career started in October 1984 as a chaplain candidate, and I retired with the rank of colonel. I served three tours of duty as a chaplain in the Middle East, and I recruited and trained chaplains as staff chaplain of the Army National Guard. I co-created Minnesota’s Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program, which helps soldiers reintegrate into civilian life. Most recently, I served at the Pentagon as an actions officer for the U.S. Army Chief of Chaplains, and I was also senior instructor for the General Colin Powell Leadership Academy in Minneapolis.

I was ordained as an elder in the Minnesota Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1985, and I have served as a parish pastor for three congregations.
