Event Description

On April 2nd at 11:15am in the Johnson Gallery, Minneapolis ceramicist, Eileen Cohen will give an artist talk about her creative process and her work. Cohen (eileendalecohen.com) is a Minneapolis-based ceramic artist exploring ideas of value, luxury, excess, and perceptions of femininity and masculinity. In recent work, she departed from pedestal-based sculpture to large-scale wall installation. Her work is included in exhibitions at the Minnesota Center of Book Arts and Bethel University, as well as in the 2019 NCECA exhibition, Spectral Matter, hosted at Bethel and on view from March 7 - April 18, 2019 . She is also a 2018 recipient of a Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative grant.

Cohen maintains a studio in NE Minneapolis and is an Arts Educator and Exhibitions Coordinator at Silverwood Park, part of the Three Rivers Park District. She is also a teaching artist at the Northern Clay Center. She received her MFA in Ceramics from Indiana University in Bloomington and her BFA in Ceramics from the University of Delaware in Newark and participated in several artist residencies.
