Event Description

Real Time and Full Scale is the latest work by Kenneth Steinbach in an ongoing series of large scale installations that reinterprets the idea of the Mappa Mundi (map of the known world) a European cartographic system from the Middle Ages that attempted to diagram the entire cosmos, including geographical, mythological and spiritual realms into a single cohesive map. Working within a contemporary Midwestern material vernacular, Real Time and Full Scale reinvents common approaches to landscape, architecture and mapping to explore expressive and metaphorical possibilities. On view in the Johnson Gallery from November  7 - December 20, 2019.

About the Artist:
Kenneth Steinbach is a Minneapolis based artist, teacher and writer, most recently publishing Creative Practices for Visual Artists: Time, Space, Process, a book that examines the activities that support long-term artistic viability. Kenneth uses a variety of media and approaches in his artistic practice, but works principally in combinations of drawing and sculpture. The installation Real Time and Full Scale is one of several ongoing projects he has been exhibiting for the past several years.
