Programs and Classes

Recitals in progress at Bethel University.

Schedule

The schedule for 2025 will be posted here in the Spring.

Programs

Private lessons

Each student will receive two lessons with a faculty member, receiving invaluable instruction in technique, musical phrasing, and artistic styles.

Studio class

Daily piano studio classes offer a wonderful opportunity for students to perform and discuss a variety of musical topics with their peers as conducted by their assigned teacher.

Piano ensemble

Students who wish to participate in the piano ensemble program must have their own ensemble partner prior to the camp. They may prepare a piano ensemble piece as one of their required repertoire selections for the camp. Participants will receive lesson coaching from ensemble instructor Ekaterina Knyazeva and perform in a dedicated ensemble recital.

Master class

Junior Master Class—A 60 minute master class dedicated to selected 4-6 grade students. This class will focus on fun and interactive coaching and demonstrations between the teacher and the students. All students are welcome to attend, but it is only required for all 4-6 grade students.

Intermediate level—A 90-100 minute master class dedicated to 7-9 grade students, conducted by Dr. Herbert Johnson. All students are welcome to attend, but it is only required for 7-12 grade students.

Advanced level—A 120 minute master class dedicated to 10-12 grade students, conducted by Professor Alexander Braginsky. All students are welcome to attend, but it is only required for 7-12 grade students.

Participating students in these masterclasses are chosen from a live audition to be held on the first day of camp. Students should follow the dress code and dress up for performances.

Classes

Composition

Working from a basis in music theory, Dr. Bauder will guide students in composing melodies, organizing ideas into forms, creating accompaniments, and analyzing pieces from the repertoire.

Music Appreciation

Dr. Bauder will lecture on selected gems from piano literature, making connections between the music and its cultural context, as well as its relevance and worth today.
