Bethel Student Named Miss Congeniality

Bethel student Jacky Arness made headlines recently when she was crowned Miss Congeniality at the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Through a vote by her peers, Arness won a $2,000 scholarship for the honor, which was given on live television backstage before the pageant.

Arness was later given a chance to compete for the title of Miss America when the judges voted her the first ever Judges’ Choice Award winner, putting her in the running alongside the traditional 15 semifinalists. Competing as Miss North Dakota, she was one of 16 to advance, but she was eliminated from the competition following the lifestyle in swimsuit competition.

Arness will take a year off from Bethel to fulfill her duties as Miss North Dakota, but plans to return to complete her senior year as a political science major. The former student body vice president at Bethel is also in the honors program, is a President’s Scholar, and has been on the Dean’s List multiple times. She plans to attend law school following graduation.
