Bethel University has announced that Carmen Shields will be the new chief marketing officer. Shields has 20 years of progressive experience in communications and marketing, including 14 years in higher education. She will begin September 8.
"I am excited about the skills and experience Carmen brings to complement and lead the marketing team at Bethel,” says Joe LaLuzerne, senior vice president for strategic planning and operational effectiveness. “Carmen has a solid track record of success, with a continuous focus on improvement and innovation.”
For the past three years, Shields has served as the director of marketing, and briefly as the interim chief marketing and communications officer, for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. Before moving to the state system, she worked for 11 years as the director of marketing and communications for North Hennepin Community College, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. In addition to higher education marketing experience, she previously worked in advertising, graphic design, and public relations in the for-profit and non-profit sectors.
“I am excited to join the Bethel community of faculty and staff committed to helping students grow academically and spiritually," says Shields. “I am passionate about marketing and higher education and I look forward to bridging my personal mission of ‘experiencing God inside and out’ with my profession.”
