Bethel Wins MIAC Championship

Bethel University's baseball team defeated Saint John's University in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) championship by a final score of 8-0 on May 13 and earned the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The Royals (32-9), who were playing in their second playoff championship in a row and third in the last five years, started Sunday's game with five runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to an 8-0 win over the Johnnies (33-8).

The Royals received the conference's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. Bethel was placed in the Duluth regional, along with Concordia University Chicago, North Central College (Illinois), University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, University of Dubuque (Iowa), and Bethany Lutheran College (Minnesota). The Royals will begin the tournament with a 7 p.m. game against UW-Oshkosh on May 17 at Wade Stadium in Duluth, Minnesota.
