Reference and Research Assistance

Reference librarians help with research, finding information, or using the library. You may see us in one of your classrooms, at the library’s reference desk, or meet us on the web. We also have a 24/7 service that provides library and research help via online chat, and dozens of online research guides.

Reference Services

Do you have a question? Well, that’s the heart of reference--finding answers to questions big and small, from locating a classroom to finding a book, citing a source to starting your research.

If you contact the reference desk, we’ll do our utmost to help. Because that’s the heart of reference service. It’s about working with you, not simply directing you. It’s not just about being available in person, by phone, by email, and in many cases by chat. It’s about being genuinely glad to hear from you.

Research Appointments/Consultations

Reference librarians meet one-on-one with students and faculty to provide extended, personalized assistance with:

  • Identifying appropriate research resources in which to search
  • Using effective searching techniques and strategies
  • Using the features of online indexes/databases
  • Using research tools such as RefWorks
  • Correctly citing information sources
