Meet Our Staff

We’re passionate about helping Bethel students understand the love of God and where this great love is calling them.

Meet our team to learn more about what we do and why we're here at Bethel. We've also put together a spiritual formation guide (pdf) to help you learn more about our philosophy of helping students grow in faith.

Matthew Runion

Associate Dean of Christian Formation and Church Relations
matthew-runion@bethel.edu

Pastor Matt's ministry call is to connect students with God's work around the world. He conducts that ministry by giving vision and oversight to missions and discipleship ministries on our campus as well as providing care and community for Third Culture Kids, Missionary Kids, and International Students. From training and sending numerous spring break mission teams to training and supporting discipleship initiatives on campus, Matt has seen that God is absolutely at work—around the world and at Bethel! Matt also leads the Bethel delegation to the Urbana student missions conference every 3 years. Matt finds great delight in working alongside Pastor Laurel in representing our department with our partners in academics and student life at Bethel. Matt holds a Master of Divinity with a concentration in Global and Contextual Ministry from Bethel Seminary.

Paul Kong

Assistant Campus Pastor, Discipleship and Sankofa Ministries
paul-kong@bethel.edu

Pastor Paul Kong graduated from Bethel Seminary with his MDIV in 2013. His role is the spiritual development of students through discipleship groups and programs. Paul’s pastoral heart and his strength of Individualization is a great combination for developing student thoughts and attitudes of God. Before Bethel, Paul held leadership roles in nonprofit management, church ministry, and chemical health recovery services.

Dale Durie

Associate Dean of Discipleship Ministries
d-durie@bethel.edu

Dale's passion is to see us participate in God’s work of shaping us into Jesus' likeness, for the sake of the world. He believes this happens best through life-on-life encounters with those who support and challenge us, and through stepping into mentoring and leadership roles.  Dale equips leaders for Shift, Upper-Class DiscipleshipBSG Student Ministries, and is the point person for the CFCR partnership with Athletics and Academics.  He graduated from Bethel with a Biblical & Theological Studies degree (85), and has gone on to earn Master of Divinity and Doctorate of Ministry degrees from other schools.  He also teaches in CAS and the Seminary as an Adjunct Associate Professor.
