  • Foundations and Implementation of Work-Based Learning (EDUC705)

    Study of the history and progress of work-based learning. Examination of the federal and state legislation that applies to the field. Gives work coordinators knowledge and tools to turn students' work experiences into meaningful learning experiences. Role of human resources in an organization. Career and technical student organizations and work-based learning in special education. Monitoring programs. Collaborating with the community, employers, school officials, and parents. Reporting to state and other agencies.

  • Curriculum Design and Instructional Methods for Work-Based Learning (TEAC707)

    Students design instruction for work-based programs that connect students' school experiences to the world of work. Current employment trends. Employment laws. Evaluation of resources for career development. Tools teacher coordinators will use to implement work-based learning.

  • Practicum in Work-based Learning for Minnesota License (TEAC710)

    An 80-hour practicum focused on working with students in the classroom to coordinate a Work-Based Learning Program.

  • Practicum for Work-Based Learning (TEAC715)

    Complete up to 150 hours of practicum tasks at a school site, gaining hands-on experience in work-based learning. Observe a work-based learning program. Write and teach online and face-to-face work-based learning curriculum. Participate in work-site visits, leadership development.

How is the License Awarded?

  • The Teacher Coordinator of Work-Based Learning license for grades 9-12 is awarded by the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board after the completion of the required coursework.
  • Bethel University cannot confirm whether courses or programs meet requirements for professional licensure in states outside of Minnesota. Students should contact their program's licensing bureau to determine whether Bethel's program meets requirements for licensure in their state.

Licensure and Accreditation 

  • Bethel’s Teacher Coordinator of Work-Based Learning License program has approval through Minnesota’s Professional Education Licensing Standards Board (PELSB).
  • The practicum course, which is only required for teachers seeking an add-on Minnesota license, must to be taken at Bethel.
