God's Word without Borders: Reading Scripture with the Global Church

January 4-29, 2027

Taught by Rachel Younis S'25, M.Div., a fourth-generation Christian from Lahore, Pakistan, theologian, author, and speaker

The Bible is God’s Word, given as revelation. And we do not read it alone but with a global church. It is bigger than any single culture, tradition, or perspective, and transcends borders. Across cultures, languages, nations, and generations, Christians read, interpret, wrestle with, and are transformed by the same Scriptures. In humility, when we read Scripture with the global church, we may experience a shift within us. Familiar passages can become fresh and unexpected, opening our eyes to the richness of God’s kingdom.

This class will explore what happens when we read Scripture beyond the borders of our own culture and learn to listen to Christians around the world. Together, we will discover how our cultural lenses shape our understanding of the Bible. We will encounter diverse ways the global church reads Scripture and consider what we might learn from Christians whose faith experiences differ from our own. If you desire to gain a deeper appreciation for the diverse and wonderfully interdependent body of Christ, join us as we pursue together a faithful reading of the Bible we share.
