Michael Dreher

Dr. Michael Dreher is the Director of Forensics. He is a Professor of Communication Studies, and the Director for the M.A. in Communication program. He has been at Bethel since 1997. Dr. Dreher competed for North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, where he received his B.A. in Speech Communication/Theater and Mathematics. His M.A. is from the University of Iowa, and his Ph.D. is from Louisiana State University. He serves as webmaster of several forensics websites. He is the tournament director for the National Christian College Forensics Invitational, and previously served as tournament director for Novice Nationals. He has also served as the Executive Secretary for the Minnesota Collegiate Forensics Association and for the Valley Forensics League, and served as  acting Executive Secretary for the Twin Cities Forensics League.

Dr. Dreher received outstanding coaching awards at the Creighton/Concordia swing (October 2002), the National Christian College Forensics Invitational (March 2003), and the Minnesota State University-Mankato tournament (October 2004). He also received the President's Service Award from the National Forensic Association in April 2014.

Jessica Samens

Dr. Jessica Samens is the Assistant Director of Forensics, and an instructor of Communication Studies. Jessica has been at Bethel since 2009. 

Previously, she taught at Minnesota State University-Mankato, where she received her M.A. in Communication, and served as a graduate assistant for the MSU-Mankato forensics team. Her B.A. is in Communication from Winona State University, where she served as a student coach and leader of the forensics team. Dr. Samens' PhD is in Health Communication from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Dr. Samens is a former chair of the Argumentation and Forensics division for the Central States Communication Association. She has also served as a member of the Executive Committee for the Minnesota Collegiate Forensics Association. She has presented a variety of papers at both state and regional conferences.
