Description: The Student Success Committee serves to support the academic success of College of Arts and Sciences students. It does so by strategically increasing the cohesiveness, efficiency, and effectiveness of academic support provided to students over time and by multiple CAS departments and offices. This committee also pays close attention to meeting the needs of CAS students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and varied life experiences, along with those who have had limited access to college-preparatory education in their high school.
The Student Success Committee incorporates much of the work of the current Advising Committee; the current Advising Committee will still function to carry out tactical aspects of advising within the direction set by the Student Success Committee. The Student Success Committee does not replace the Advising Team nor the Beacon Academic Support Team.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic oversight and planning for the advising process in CAS.
- Provide strategy in executing the retention plan developed in collaboration with the associate provost of CAS and associate vice president of student life.
- Use trends from retention data, data from the beacon academic support process, survey data, and other pertinent university data to set goals and propose action to continuously serve students better.
- Work collaboratively with the AESC office to determine strategy for needed touchpoints and faculty interventions.
- Work collaboratively with all appropriate offices and departments to coordinate student touchpoints from deposited student to graduation. This includes orientation, advising, registration, financial aid, AESC, first-year experience, residence life, OARS, Christian formation, Office of Wellbeing, Counseling Services, etc.
