On-Site Supervisors

The on-site supervisor provides on-site direction, supervision, and evaluation of the intern, and meaningful experiences that provide opportunity to demonstrate and receive evaluation regarding degree program outcomes. Outcomes address:

  • Biblical and Theological Foundations
  • Personal and Spiritual Formation
  • Transformational Leadership
  • Intercultural Competence
  • Whole-life Integration

The supervisor also performs a final evaluation of the student concerning integration of these outcomes.

The on-site supervisor must be licensed or ordained, as appropriate for the ministry context, have a graduate theological degree, have at least five years’ experience in ministry leadership at the level of preparation for ministerial practice envisioned for the student’s degree program, and have been oriented to internship requirements.

On-site supervisor orientation is included as a part of the internship preparation process.

Off-Site Mentors

The role of the off-site mentor is to facilitate the student’s spiritual and personal formation, by means of regular reflection. The mentor’s focus in reflection is on the student’s identity related to calling.

The mentor must be a credentialed professional in the student’s chosen field and ecclesiastical community, as appropriate to that community. She or he must have completed graduate level professional theological education, and have at least five years’ experience in ministry leadership at the level of preparation for ministerial practice envisioned for the student’s degree program. Accommodation can be made for unique circumstances with approval of the director of internship and placement.
