Physics & Engineering Scholarship

Bethel University is proud to offer the Bethel Physics & Engineering Program Scholarship. Through this program, two full-tuition and two $10,000/year scholarships are awarded to deserving incoming students planning to pursue a primary major in the Department of Physics and Engineering at Bethel.

Full tuition or $10,000, awarded annually 

Timeline

  • Apply between: September 1, 2021 - January 14, 2022
  • Application Deadline: January 14, 2022
  • On-campus interview and tour: February 4, 2022, (5:15-8:45 p.m.), and February 8, 2022, (1:45-4:45 p.m.). Choose one—you must attend one to be eligible for a scholarship
  • Announcement of scholarship awards: March 7, 2022
  • Deadline for acceptance of all scholarships: April 1, 2022

Eligibility

At the time of application, students must:

  • be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and
  • be high school seniors during the 2021-2022 school year, and
  • have an unweighted high school grade point average of at least 3.50 (4.0 scale), and
  • Although there is no ACT or SAT score requirement, the strength of the application will be greatly enhanced by a good ACT or SAT score

Requirements and limitations:

  • You must attend one of the visit and interview events on February 4 or 8, 2022, to be eligible for a scholarship. If you are unable to attend, you will not be eligible to receive a scholarship.
  • Scholarship recipients must enroll at Bethel in the fall of 2022, majoring in physics or engineering (view eligible programs) *Please note, the B.S. in Software Engineering is not an eligible program for this scholarship.
  • The scholarships are renewable for three years (four years total), provided recipients continue to have a primary major in the Department of Physics and Engineering, make satisfactory progress towards their degree, and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50.
  • Recipients of the full-tuition Bethel Physics & Engineering Program Scholarship are not eligible for other Bethel-controlled grants or scholarships. They may use need-based grants (e.g. Federal Pell and Minnesota State Grants), or private scholarships to pay for room, board, and other educational expenses. 
  • Recipients of the $10,000 annual Bethel Physics & Engineering Program Scholarship will be considered for Bethel’s Royal Merit Scholarship and need-based grants. They are not eligible for other Bethel-controlled merit scholarships. 
  • Dependents of Bethel employees are not eligible for the Bethel Physics & Engineering Program Scholarship.

Application Process

Interested students who meet the scholarship eligibility requirements will be asked to complete the following when applying for the Bethel Physics & Engineering Program Scholarship.

First, apply to Bethel University.

Then submit the Bethel Physics & Engineering Program Scholarship Application, which will ask for the following elements:

  1. List of all the science and mathematics courses (not listed on your current transcript) that you will complete before you graduate from high school.
  2. Explain what appeals to you about Bethel’s physics and engineering programs.
  3. Provide the name, email address, and discipline of a teacher who would provide a letter of recommendation for you if you are selected as a finalist.
  4. Attend a Bethel Physics and Engineering Program Scholarship visit event, and
  5. Actively participate in a group interview with Department of Physics and Engineering faculty.
  6. Upload a resume
