Core Value Mark of Distinction

Publication Date - April 20, 2023

Congratulations to the 2022 Core Value Mark of Distinction award winners: Melanie Cole, Paul Byer, and Andrew Rock!

Melanie Cole

Data Steward & Administrative Assistant for CAPS & GS Education

Core Value Award: Christ-follower

Melanie consistently embodies Christ in her interactions at Bethel and beyond. Those who nominated Melanie used words like selfless, gracious and humble to describe her way of being at work. The stories shared in her nomination form describe one who is acutely aware of how she can (and does) empower those around her. In a similar fashion to Christ, Melanie thinks of others, tends to their needs, and ultimately enhances the student experience by graciously helping students move through the Ed.D. program here at Bethel. Melanie, thank you for displaying your deep faith in Christ in all you do at Bethel!

Paul Byer

Lead Carpenter, Facilities Management

Core Value Award: Christ-follower

Paul is our second award recipient who was also nominated for the Christ-follower core value. In his role as Lead Carpenter,  Paul best exemplifies this core value in light of his “desire to serve others and his humility. Paul has often been tasked with various projects that require quick turnarounds and limited resources. He consistently produces high quality work that has a profound impact on the Bethel community. Many times these efforts are not accredited to him, but he proceeds to pursue excellence, nevertheless. When recently acknowledged for his support with a project Paul responded, "I can only reflect His excellence." Paul, thank you for displaying your deep desire to follow Christ as you work here at Bethel.

Andrew Rock

Director of Track & Field, Athletics Department

Core Value Award: Salt & Light

Coach Rock exemplifies the traits associated with the core value of salt and light: “using one’s skills, knowledge, abilities, gifts, and passions to help preserve the gospel of Jesus, to give flavor to others’ lives, and to bring light to a dark and hurting world.” Coach Rock’s consistent presence and intentional influence among the students who participate in track and field is evident.  His nominators told multiple stories of how Coach Rock invests not only in the student’s development as athletes but also as followers of Christ. His consistent times of team devotionals, prayer, and encouragement throughout the school year were highlights from those who nominated him. Coach Rock, thank you for being salt and light and encouraging our students to also embody these traits as well!

Our deepest apologies that the 2022 Core Value Mark of Distinction Award Winners were announced this late. However, we ask that you join us in congratulating these winners and thanking them for their influence on our Bethel community.
