When will my aid be disbursed?

  • CAS: Financial Aid will disburse on or around the third week of August for fall. If you are taking a January extended spring class, aid will disburse on or around the first week of January for spring. If you are not taking an extended spring class, aid will disburse in early February. Financial Aid will disburse on the first day of the first course taken during summer semester.
  • CAPS/GS and Seminary: Financial Aid will disburse on the first day of the first class taken in either the fall/spring/summer. Thus there are usually three disbursement (one each semester).

What do I need to do to accept my Financial Aid?

https://banner.bethel.edu/prod8/bwrkrhst.P_DispAwdAidYear to accept the loans and gift aid. Once you accept gift aid, a thank you note requirement will be generated. The thank you note will also need to be completed in order to fully accept your aid. You will also need to fulfill the annual requirement to read and acknowledge Financial Aid Terms and Conditions.

Do I have everything turned in for my Financial Aid?

If you have not yet been offered financial aid, either complete the FAFSA or let the Financial Aid Office know if you will not be doing the FAFSA by completing the FAFSA Opt-Out Form. If you have been offered financial aid, check MyBethel Checklist for items that still need to be completed.

Can I attend classes if I haven't received Financial Aid yet?

Yes. Make sure the student account balance will be affordable to make payments on if you are not using Financial Aid.

What happens to my Financial Aid if I drop/withdraw from a course?

If you withdraw from a course during the semester, talk to your Financial Aid Counselor because it could impact other semesters, reduce the amount of scholarships/grants for the current semester--or it may have no impact at all. Email: finaid@bethel.edu.

If I add more credits how much will my Pell and/or Minnesota State Grant and Bethel gift aid increase by?

For CAS students, Pell and MN State Grants and Bethel gift aid are locked on the 10th day of class each semester. For CAPS students, adding or decreasing the amount of credits in a semester may affect the Pell or State Grant. Check with your Financial Aid Counselor for details. Email: finaid@bethel.edu.

My FAFSA does not reflect my current financial situation. What can I do?

You will need to submit an appeal.

My parents don't support me at all. Why do I need to provide their information on the FAFSA?

FAFSA considers the student to be dependent if the student is under the age of 24, not married, without dependent children and not homeless/ward of the court/orphaned, etc. Thus, a dependent student must include parent information even if the parent does not offer financial support. Additional information about dependency is located at https://studentaid.gov/sites/default/files/fafsa-dependency.pdf.

Did you get my FAFSA, MPN, Verification form, etc?

You can see what has been received by going to MyBethel>Checklist and if there are items listed as expected, we have not received the item (allow 3-5 business days once you submit the item to be entered into this system). If you are missing Direct Loan Entrance Counseling or Master Promissory Note, please visit the Federal Student Aid website to complete those items.

How much in loans should I borrow for my classes each semester?

If you are a CAPS/GS/Seminary student and wish to receive uneven loan disbursements, please contact our office by email with your request. Email: finaid@bethel.edu.
